Safety Engineering and Environmental Management is growing career field with a bright future ahead for graduating students. Safety professionals are an essential element in almost every type of industry, construction firm, plant, or government agency. As a part of an executive management team, safety professionals are relied on to identify unsafe or hazardous conditions and coordinate efforts to eliminate the hazard. Many safety professionals find great reward in knowing that they are a key element in the prevention of accidents and the safety of others.
The jobs a safety professional performs may include, but are not limited to: Environmental Management, Fire Protection, Inspector / Auditor, Accident Investigator, Training Specialist, Regulatory Compliance Director, Consultant, and many others. Currently, there are over 1000 job openings nationwide that are going unfilled due to a lack of qualified safety professionals. Men, women, and career changing adults do well in this profession. Many find employment with private industries, government agencies or as private consultants.
Safety Professionals make an average between $40,000 to $150,000 a year. Many graduates are offered $40,000 + to start with mid-career pay in the 70k – 80k range. Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is one of the highest certifications a safety professional can achieve.
